Project Pipeline: Final Animation

So this is my group’s final product for our project pipeline project that we have been working on for the last 5 weeks.  This is a student made and student directed project.  To see the blog of the director Emma click here.

Project Pipeline: Post 5

Its been a busy week!  The finished product is coming soon!  This week I colored scene 8, cleaned up and colored scene 11, and colored scenes 12, 13, and 14. Much thanks to  for coloring in the eyes, mouth, and ears of the creature afterward and adding the trasparencey.  I will be in the labs tomorrow helping to put this together.


Project Pipeline: Post 4

This week I finished roughing out the scenes assigned to me (13, 14, and 15).  In some of the scenes I manipulated the storyboard so that the viewer gets the sense of background movement.  For the creature, I wanted to add character to his movements and make sure that he never truly stays still.  It was actually quite fun to animate the bubbly little creature.  What was more difficult were some of the walk and run cycles involved in these scenes.  Her pony tail seems to move a bit too much during the walk in scene 13.  In scene 15, I decided to make her notice the slenderman before running to add more character and give more reason for the run.  All in all, i had really enjoyed animating these scenes.

This is a roughed- out version of scene 14.  I will be working of roughing out the other scenes as well this week.


Pipeline: Post 2

So this last week we were supposed to experiment with the characters.  I wanted to play with moving the girl in 3 dimensional space.  I have also added a bit to what I did on Thursday so that I could play with her emotions and the secondary actions of her hair and sweatshirt.  These are rough and are supposed to indicate motion and a general sense of shape and weight without becoming too detailed.

I am really excited for this project.  We are doing a huge collaboration to make an animation.  We only have 5 weeks to pull it off so let’s go!  Here is a link to Emma’s blog .  She is the director of this project and came up with the main idea.  And here is the link to The Lost Files, which is this project’s main site.

I am going to be working as an animator for this project.  Since our group is still in the process of getting the story written and characters designed,  we have mainly been playing around with sketching the characters in various ways.  Here are some of my sketches.

Project Pipeline Idea: Post 1

The Project:  In the simplest terms, my idea is to make a detailed miniature of a town.  The town would be approximately 5ft by 5ft, contain buildings, scenery, and inhabitants.  It will follow a theme chosen by the group on day one (modern, Victorian, circus, ect.) and have a consistent style throughout.  The town will be made out of cardboard, wire, sculpt, and other found objects.  Imagine it as a set for a stop-motion film.  The characters featured within the town will be in active poses that contain story.  This town is meant to be made so that the viewer could come back again and again and notice new things that they hadn’t before.

Remember Quasimoto  and the Phantom of the Opera?  They both had fun making miniature towns!  

And remember all the cool scenes from your favorite stop motion films?

Roles:  Many people with a variety of talents will be needed.

  • Director: Kaitlyn Fuchs-  As your director I will work, plan, and participate with all groups to make sure the project goes smoothly.  If any problems occur, I will do my best to sort them out.  This is a group effort which means all of our ideas and thoughts on the project are important.  If this idea is chosen, I will make sure everyone in the group has a say and influence on the final product.
  • Head of Art Direction:  I will need someone with a firm grasp of design and color principles.

~Designers:  There will be three different groups of designers.  Designers will work on 2D plans of the final product.

  • Layout Designers:  People who have a strong sense of color and design.  They will formulate a color palate and consistent style for the town.  They will decide the layout of the town. (streets, houses, buildings, lakes, ect.) They should also have a story-driven mindset, as they will be deciding what the people of the little town are doing.  They will communicate with the other designers what people, props, buildings, ect, they feel are needed.
  • Building Designers:  People with strong drawing skills that will design the buildings from multiple angles and draw it so that it can be easily built.
  • Prop Designers:  People with strong drawing skills that can draw props that match the chosen style of the town so that they may be easily build.  Plant life, and trees will be included as a prop.
  • Character Designers:  people with strong drawing skills who can design characters from multiple angles.  They must also consider if their characters are possible in 3 dimensions so that the builders can create them easily.

~Builders:  There will be three different groups of builders.  Builders will create 3d versions of the 2d designs.

  • Building Builders:  People with strong 3D and sculptural skills that can turn the building designs into sculptures.
  • Prop Builders:  People with strong 3D and sculptural skills that can turn the prop designs into sculptures.
  • Character Builders: People with strong 3D and sculptural skills that can turn the character designs into sculptures.   For those experienced in sculpty, this is the place for you.

~Editorial

  • Head of Editorial:  An organized and reliable person who will update the project blog, make the credit lists, the making-of-production, and research competitions
